HONDARI ABDUL-ALI RETURNS TO ALLAH
Brother Hondari Abdul-Ali returned to Allah last Saturday night as Allah gave the Angel of Death permission to take brother Hondari’s soul. Brother Hondari was a businessman opening book stores and grocery stores in DC and Maryland. He had his own morning talk show with WPFW Radio and he once worked at the Embassy of Sudan. He was a human rights activist, husband and father. Most of all Brother Hondari was Insha Allah a practicing good Muslim in this world and may Allah grant him peace in the grave and give him paradise on the Day of Judgement.
“I remember meeting Hondari while a graduate student at Howard University where Hondari had already graduated from Howard. I had published my second volume of poetry which was edited by DC Poet Laurette E. Ethelbert Miller and Scott Douthat whom was the last reporter to visit and interview the late Harlem, New York US Congressman Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. Hondari allowed me to supplement my income by selling my book “Poeting,” at his Pyramid Bookstore on Georgia Ave. It was an honor to attend Hondari Janaza and carry his body and casket from Masjid Muhammad in vehicle which would transport his body and casket to his grave site,” said Al Hajj Mahdi Leroy J. Thorpe, Jr.
DC DPR DIRECTOR HEARS ECCA COMPLAINTS
DC Department of Recreation and Parks Director Jesus Aquirre attended the ECCA Meeting on May 2nd and was surprised by the number of complaints regarding issues associated with a dog park proposal and ANC 2C-Commission. Mr. Aquirre was shocked when many residents complained that Advisory Neighborhood Commission 2-C was selective towards representing the diverse community and ignored Black residents concerns. Nevertheless, the meeting was well attended and Mr. Aguirre was received well and enjoyed the catered and donated Beau Thai food. The ECCA is open to the community and has a non tolerance policy towards slander, libel and disruptive behavior during ECCA Meetings and it’s membership which can result in non-members being barred. The ECCA also has a voting membership process and uniquely because of the economic, social, educational and political polarization in the city focuses on International and Black issues time to time.
