MAYOR GRAY’S DC PRE-SCHOOL LEGISLATION FINANCIALLY AIDS DC RESIDENTS WITH CHILDEN: MAYOR GRAY TARGETS EDUCATING INFANTS AND TODDLERS

14 Aug

District residents with children can thank DC Mayor Gray for his pre-school legislation that allows three year-old children to enroll in DC Public Schools without financial cost.  Maryland residents with children under four years of age will have to pay for pre-schooling.  Mayor Gray is working on his vision to educate infants and toddlers in the District of Columbia to reach them at an early age to prepare them for better tests scores and academic promise.

I think the Mayor, as much as I respect his views on many things, has this particular idea backwards.
Children do well in school when their parents have properly prepared them at home from infancy to 5 or 6 years, not when they are turned over to the government in infancy or the years up to 5 or 6.
The government is not a parent and it is wrong for it to try to replace parents.
Many, if not most, of the problems kids are having in school are the result of not being properly prepared by their parents but shuttled off to day care before they are ready or otherwise being given to understand that they are not important enough for their parents to spend time with them and every mother who has had to send her children to day care so she can go to work can tell you how much is lost and how hard they have to work to overcome that loss. The government can not fix that by going even deeper into early childhood thinking it can do what the parents have not done.
People who choose to have children are responsible for them, not the government.

I think Mayor Gray is onto something good with his early childhood educational vision for DC residents; particulary, in the African-American community where parenting is mostly done by 70% or more by females as head of the household while the father is absent from the home and childs life.

The lack of a strong male figure in the home has resulted in a high ratio of adolescents dropping out of middle and high school resutling in crime and teenage pregnancy. I believe although the male figure in most of these African-American familes is out of the home – the children has a chance to develop and compete academiccally via Mayor Gray’s early childhood vision. I also believe that Mayor Gray’s childhood vision would be advantageous regardless of class and cultural lines in DC to afford children and early start to a class edcuation to compete against China and Japan in the global economic and technological world for the future (Insha Allah).
