EAST CENTRAL CIVIC ASSOCIATION – ECCA SURVEY SHOW’S MAYOR GRAY STILL POPULAR AMONG BLACK AND LATNIO VOTERS IN DC AND WOULD DEFEAT FORMER MAYOR FENTY 3 -1 IF THE MAYORAL ELECTION WAS HELD TODAY
The historic East Central Civic Association – ECCA sampled 100 voters in Wards 2 & 6 targeting Black and Latino voters. The December 2011 survey showed that if the Mayoral election was held today between current Mayor Vincent C. Gray and former Mayor Adrian Fenty, Gray would win 3 to 1. Despite the slow economy the majority of Blacks and Latino’s cited the DC Department of Employment Services aggressive outreach efforts to register them for jobs in their neighborhoods regarding development projects underway i.e… Market O at 7th & O Streets, NW and the Marriott Hotel at 9th and Massachusetts Ave, NW.
Black and Latino voters indicated that they would never vote for Fenty at a ratio of 3-1, based on Fenty ignoring their basic needs for affordable housing and employment and having an uppity attitude towards them during his past administration. The two groups indicated that Gray is having a hard time delivering many jobs due to the economy but felt he is on the right course despite the negative articles about his administration in the Washington Post and would vote for him 3 to 1 over Fenty if the election was held today.
